State Agency Road Safety Deputy Chairperson Anjelina Toteva, together with Mayor of Gabrovo Tanya Hristova and District Governor Nevena Petkova, launched the second celebration of road safety in the district city. The initiative takes place under the motto “Travel…CAUTIOUSLY!”

“I congratulate the organizers for holding this event, for a second year in a row, bringing together so many children and their parents,” Anjelina Toteva said. In her words, through such initiatives, the topic of road safety attracts the attention of the public and focuses on the importance of continuing training from a very early age.

The road safety days, which this year coincide with the European Mobility Week, 16 – 22 September, gave rise to activities for children and adults to enhance their knowledge of safe crossing, cycling, driving in compliance with traffic rules.

The focus of the event this year is cyclists, so the centerpiece of the event was a competition on applied cycling. Today’s initiatives started in the morning with an unusual competition called Mom is a good driver. A Chalk Drawings area was put together where children presented their messages about road safety.

There was also a fashion show, as part of a contest for retro-reflective clothing made by children and their parents. The jury ranked the top three outfits: the most innovative, the most attractive, and the most effective. The event included also a race with scooters, an orienteering competition, and an electric cart competition for children. Visitors could try a car simulator and see, using special alcohol goggles, how a person’s perceptions change after drinking alcohol.

A mock road accident response with a burning vehicle was also demonstrated. Having showed how to respond in practice, the teams of the police, the fire department, the emergency services, and the Bulgarian Red Cross held talks with children and visitors, answering all questions.

The event was organized by the District Road Safety Commission, in cooperation with Gabrovo Municipality, and took place under the auspices of State Agency Road Safety.
